Meet The Community: Jasmine

Welcome to Black Yoga Society’s Meet The Community! Every Monday and Thursday, we feature a member sharing their spiritual journey and discussing all their wins and losses along the way. If you’d like to be featured, contact us.

My name is Jasmine! I’m originally from California, I was a military kid, so I moved around a lot!  Now, I live in Houston, Texas.

I made a decision that I was going to be at peace and be happy. Period. Once I made that choice, my spiritual journey began. I noticed I was happier, felt at peace, and didn’t feel any negative energy around me. By making this journey a priority, I began to see changes in my everyday life.

“It’s an amazing feeling to help re-write the narrative.”

Yoga is one of my forms of healing and I offer group/private sessions to help others. Recently, I’ve had my first crystal healing experience, with a crystal healing practitioner. It was amazing! As a black woman, I’ve definitely felt “out of place” within the wellness community. Yoga, especially, is a White-majority dominated field. With that being said, I’ve definitely felt like the black sheep (no pun intended) in certain spaces.

Since I’ve experienced those feelings, I don’t want others to feel the same. Therefore, I’ve successfully been able to gather groups of POC three times a week for yoga! It’s an amazing feeling to help re-write the narrative. If there are any yogis in the Houston area that want to come out and vibe, meet us in Hermann Park.

To find out more about me and what I do, check out my IG @_vibeswithjas to catch a vibe! I post all updates and class schedules on there.
